Boot Camp Update

The only thing I can say is that this week vs. last week is like night and day difference. Boot camp was almost enjoyable yesterday. The work out is still extremely hard however instead of screaming at you and putting you down they tend to spend more time encouraging you. Its still tough but not as extreme. I don't have to wear the 30 pound vest anymore, no more face paint, and the put downs seem to be at a minimum. Glad I stuck it out. The only problem is that I took so much Ibuprofen and Aleve last week I have given myself an ulcer. I started medication for it today and feel much better. So things are settling down in my world right now.

Swimming Lessons

Brett has been in swim lessons for 2 weeks. So far he has done a pretty good job. He does not like to get dunked under water. He is kind of timid in that area. Justin came with me to the last lesson and said its more my fault because of my reaction so I dunked him a few times and he still hated it. We go back again tomorrow for the next lesson.

Week 1 Boot Camp: Hell Week

Day 1, Monday- Monday was absolutely horrible. It was a million times worse than I had expected. It was not only physical but very emotionally exhausting. Wearing a 30 pound vest for a 1 hour work out when I have not worked out in a long time was grueling. Then on top of that they were shouting in my face and calling names….. I wont bring those up as they are probably not appropriate for print. At the beginning they took my food list and made me do 10 pushups for every bad thing I ate (according to them). This included pushups for milk, cheese, taco bell, every soda, and 1 push up for every chip in the nachos I had. OUCH! I hurt so bad the first day. I cried in the middle of it and the cried for about 2 hours when I got home. I wish I could say I was making it up but I truly broke down for about 2 hours. Then I didn’t sleep at all because even with all the ibprophine (sp?) I took I still ached.

Day 2, Tuesday- Was a very hard work out but not as emotional as day 1. I didn’t break down or cry. It was sore as heck when I left. No tears and I sleep like a baby that night until Brett got up with the stomach flu. It was very hard because he just wanted to be held the entire time and I was sore. We made it through the night. I was with a different group this time. A group that I will be with for the whole 6 weeks. I was happy it wasn’t the group who saw me cry. They were very supportive but how embarrassing.

Day 3, Wednesday- Again a very hard work out but not as emotional. I was tired from being up with Brett the night before. They had me on a steep incline on the treadmill and then you have to jump off and lift weights. I did not think I was going to make the last 10 minutes. That vest really makes an incline hard. Thank goodness my mom spent the night and was there to help give Brett a bath. It hurt to bend over.

Day 4, Thursday- Paradise. They were very easy on me on Thursday. Little did I know that it was because they were planning to kill me on Friday. I made it through the work out with no problem. I spent most of my time on the treadmill with no incline memorizing the cadences for the following morning. The others in the group warned me to know them by heart. It took my mind off the work out and for the last 10 minutes I got to stretch. It was wonderful. I could handle it if every day was like that.

Day 5, Friday- Hell! On Fridays you go to a high school football field at 6 am. Okay so the 6 am thing was the first part of hell. Then you had to run in formation for 2 laps. That ½ mile of running with a 30 pound vest on. I had to fall out of formation but thank goodness I wasn’t the first. Then we ran bleachers. Up one side, across the field up the other side and back and forth. These were not the bleachers at Carbon high were I went to school These were huge. I finally got down the length of the football field and found out we had to go back the other way. I was in tears again at this point with the instructor yelling in my face. Two guys from my class who have been in it for over 1 year were very encouraging and made some small talk with me through it. That helped. Then we ran up “a**” hill you have to run straight up and then down the bleachers 10 times. From there it was sit ups on the hill. These two really nice guys from my group helped me finish. I figure that I did pretty good by not giving up. One girl quit ½ through the first part of bleachers. She just disappeared. Also I was not the last one done (okay so 2nd to last but still!). So I graduated from Hell Week. Next week I get to do it all over again but without the face paint, the vest and there will still be some yelling but nothing like this week. So I have finished 1 week out of 6! The worst week.

Okay so that was really long winded….. Tomorrow I will post some fun pictures of Brett and Mommy at swimming lessons.

Baby Bear

Cabelas was having a huge sale with lots of little activities. They had a little 3 month bear cub that we had to get a picture taken with. I was worried Brett would freak out but he really could have cared less about the baby bear. I think he thought it was a stuffed animal. The poor little cub was just trying to have a nap. When we got the picture back and showed Brett we asked him whats this and pointed to the bear and he would point to himself and say "Brett". Also at cabelas he got to watch a scuba diver cleaning the tank, saw birds, bears, etc. It was an exciting outing.

I made it back from Chicago and everyone was still alive. Brett was home sick the whole time with a sick daddy. It was tough on everyone. I felt horrible leaving them but Justin did a great job taking care of Brett. Also thanks to Deb who came up to help one day so Justin could go to work. I stayed home with him on Friday as planned and he wasn't sick at all so I got the best day of the week.

Tomorrow is Brett's 2nd swim class. I am really excited for it but I am not sure Brett had as much fun as me. He loved jumping in the pool but was really pretty nervous the whole time. Hopefully after 8 lessons he will be more comfortable in the pool. Its funny because in the tub at night he gets on his tummy to show me he is swimming but in the pool he doesn't like to be on his tummy.

Before Boot Camp

I would never normally post a picture of just me on this site but this is my Before picture. On Monday I start boot camp. It is a 6 week weight loss and exercise program. Their slogan is "Shock and Awe" It is 5 days a week 1 hour a day exercise program and they run it like real boot camp. The first week is "hell week" and they make you carry a 30 pound pack every where you go. Also you cant look them in the eye and you have to shuffle between equipment. If you dont repeat certain phrases at the right time you do push ups. They said on the first day you usually do countless pushups. There is lots of yelling and screaming in your face. I am terrified of what Monday will bring but hopeful it will be what I need since I lack will power. I am trying to trick my body into realizing that eating healthy and exercising is good. I want to stay motivated so I am going to post updates. The more public it is the harder it will be for me to quit. My goal for the first day is to not cry.

Anyway wish me luck and hopefully I will have a good after picture!

I've been tagged!

Chelsea tagged me on her web site (Thanks Chelsea) so that means I must put down 5 random things about myself and 6 happy thoughts. So here they are…..

Random………….

1. Just the thought of soggy bread makes me want to throw up. Sometimes I think Justin puts a piece of bread in the sink just to make me gag, but yet I can eat French dip sandwiches and French onion soup.

2. This morning I started a spinning class in Murray and my bum is numb. I hate to wake up early but I was there at 5:45 am.

3. Next week I am going to Chicago to conduct leadership training. It starts at 6 am Central time so with the hour time difference and the Daylight Savings Time this weekend its going to feel like 4 am. I think I need to start drinking caffeine now to compensate for that.

4. Brett and I are starting parent/tot swimming lessons tonight. I am really excited because the water is my favorite place in the world to be. That includes: lakes, pools, rivers, bath tubs, hot tubs, etc.

5. I love chips and salsa, popcorn, chips, anything that is salty.

Happy Things…….

1. A long bath (by long I mean over 1 hour) with a cheesy mystery novel in complete silence.

2. Every night when I put Brett to bed we have a little routine which includes Eskimo kisses and him pointing out my eyes, nose, ears, neck, elbows, etc.

3. Every morning when Brett wakes up and calls “mommy”. (this applies only when he wakes up after 6:30 am….)

4. Going on a date to the movies with Justin.

5. Talking to friends and family on the phone or webcam. Email is great, but having a voice with the words is even better.

6. Being at home with Brett and Justin with the TV off and playing on the floor together. Signing, Dancing, Jumping, Rolling, Cars, it doesn’t matter just being together.

The last part of this is tagging someone else… So Andrea, you’re it! TAG!
